About
Greetings! In 2004, I graduated from the College of Charleston in beautiful Charleston, SC with a bachelor's degree in physics with a minor in chemistry. As an undergraduate student, I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring students in introductory physics ( and chemistry when appropriate ) to assist with their laboratory work, homework assignments, and examinations. It wouldn't be until 2018, however, that I begin to actively prepare to teach physics on the high school level. I took and passed the Praxis 2 Physics Exam on my first attempt with a score of 153. This made me eligible to begin teaching secondary physics in all 50 U.S. states upon completion a post-graduation teacher's program. I eventually received three invitations to teach, but this was during 2019 when the pandemic was beginning to make being interviewed in person very difficult. For this reason, I began to create educational material for impoverished high school students living throughout the Republic of Liberia to pass time. The material produced would later comprise the bulk of content published on my blog at https://renaissancephysics.com. I've also begun creating videos for my " 7th Dimension Physics Channel " on YouTube. I finally was hired to work as a physics tutor by the Anderson, SC Sylvan Learning Center. The stint tutoring a high school student went very well, but I was unexpectedly assigned to teach young children from the age of 7 to 14 in mathematics due to no other parents making inquiries with the center. For this reason, I stopped working there and began making further inquiries that led to discover of the SC Education Scholarship Trust Fund ( ESTF ). My tutoring style involves first assessing what strengths a student has. Afterwards, intuitive and engaging explanations of concepts are followed by sample problems that I work prior to guidance students through solving the problems own through their own accord. With skillful sets of questions, student can demonstrate through problem solving and answering questions that they are getting a conceptual as well as quantitative grasp of the material at hand. This is an approach that works beautifully with students from very diverse backgrounds and levels of preparedness, and it is the approach I will continue to use throughout the future.
